Introduction

The intersection of music and politics has long been a focus of music scholars. If we perceive politics as the rules developed to reinforce power relationships in daily life, then musical expression, as a powerful medium, may reflect these rules, become the drive to affect them in various ways, or both. Consequently, following this understanding, a considerable volume of literature concerned with the political aspects of music exist. Part I of the following collection of resources reflects this by including collected writings on various political conversations surrounding musicking, such as censorship, protest, war, nationalism, colonialism, and so on.* Part II features publications beginning from 2010 to today, categorized according to their primary geographical area of discussion. If you would like to contribute to this collection, please direct your comments, questions, and/or suggested additions to risingvoicesjournal@gmail.com.
